2. Data We Collect

Calculator Usage

All calculations on TaxValio are performed entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. No calculator inputs, outputs, or usage data are sent to our servers or stored anywhere. Your calculator data never leaves your device.

Waitlist & Contact Email

When you submit the waitlist form or contact us by email, we collect your email address (and any information you provide in your message). This data is processed solely to respond to your inquiry and, for the waitlist, to notify you when a calculator you opted in for ships.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR — processing is necessary for the performance of a contract or to take steps at your request prior to entering into a contract.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to understand how our site is used in aggregate. Vercel Analytics is privacy-respecting: it does not use cookies, does not track individual users across sites, and does not collect personally identifiable information. Only aggregated, anonymous metrics (such as page views, referrer data, and device type) are collected. Analytics only run after you accept the cookie banner.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR — your consent, collected via our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser’s localStorage or contacting us.

3. Cookies & Local Storage

TaxValio uses the following storage mechanisms:

  • tv-cookie-consent (localStorage, strictly necessary) — stores your cookie-consent preference (“accepted” or “declined”). Persists until you clear it manually. No expiry.
  • Vercel Analytics (cookieless, consent-gated) — only loaded after you click “Accept” on the cookie banner. No cookies are set; aggregated metrics only.
  • Calculator URL parameters — calculator inputs may be reflected in URL query parameters so results can be shared via link. These are not stored on our servers or in your browser’s local storage.

We do not set advertising, retargeting, or third-party tracking cookies. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and obtain renewed consent before setting any new non-essential cookies.

4. Data Processors

We use the following third-party processors to operate TaxValio:

Processor Purpose Location Safeguards
Vercel Inc. Hosting & Analytics USA (EU-fronted) Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), EU-US Data Privacy Framework

Additional processors (Resend for transactional email, Stripe for subscription payments) will be added to this table when the corresponding features ship. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect each such change.

5. Data Retention

Waitlist emails: retained for as long as the waitlist is active, or until you unsubscribe / request deletion. Deleted within 30 days of request.

Email correspondence: retained for as long as necessary to handle your inquiry and any resulting business correspondence. Deleted when no longer needed, unless we are required by law to retain it longer.

Analytics: Vercel Analytics data is aggregated and does not contain personally identifiable information. Retained per Vercel’s data retention policies.

6. Your Rights Under the GDPR

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR) — confirmation whether we process your data and, if so, access to it.
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR) — correction of inaccurate personal data.
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) — deletion where there is no compelling reason for continued processing.
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR) — restriction under certain conditions.
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) — receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR) — object to processing where we rely on legitimate interests.
  • Right to withdraw consent (Art. 7(3) GDPR) — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@taxvalio.com. We respond within 30 days.

7. International Data Transfers

Some processors (currently Vercel) are located in the United States. Where personal data is transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) that do not provide an adequate level of data protection, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) pursuant to Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR and, where applicable, on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision of 10 July 2023).

8. Children’s Privacy

TaxValio is not intended for use by children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 16, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

10. Supervisory Authority

If you believe that our processing of your personal data infringes the GDPR, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Our competent supervisory authority is:

Unabhängiges Landeszentrum für Datenschutz Schleswig-Holstein (ULD)
Holstenstraße 98
24103 Kiel
Germany
